NIST Releases Concept Note for AI RMF Profile on Critical Infrastructure
On April 7, 2026, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released a concept note for an AI RMF Profile on Trustworthy AI in Critical Infrastructure. The profile is intended to guide critical infrastructure operators toward specific risk management practices to consider when engaging AI-enabled capabilities.
Background
The NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF 1.0) was released on January 26, 2023, as a voluntary framework for managing AI risks. In July 2024, NIST also released NIST-AI-600-1, the Generative AI Profile, which helps organizations identify unique risks posed by generative AI.
